The purpose of this course is to teach students to develop critical thinking skills through reading English language literature. Genres studied include fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Eight themes, each with a central idea, will be studied in a student centered learning environment. These ideas include personal achievement, overcoming challenges, life lessons and using imagination.
The purpose of this course is to teach students to develope critical thinking skills through reading English language literature. Genres studied include fiction, non-fiction, and poetry as well as folktales. Other areas of study include literary elements, reading comprehension skills, grammar and writing skills.
Students will develop their English ability through reading and learning about English Literature, including short stories, poetry, plays, essays and extracts from novels.
They will increase their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary through the literature and related grammar lessons.
They will learn to develop productive skills by writing and speaking about the literature that they study.
The will learn critical thinking skills by being encouraged to offer their own thoughts, opinions and reactions to the stories in speech and writing, and by asking, and being asked questions during the lessons.
They will enjoy reading and learning about different types of English Literature.
